Research Area

Our major research themes create a critical mass of activity in strategically important interdisciplinary fields of FTZ, supply chain, logistics, port and shipping technology. The research themes focus on policy consulting in those areas so to meet the needs and requirements from government departments, industries and enterprises.

1. Research Topics

(1) Key issues of government supervision and policies. Theoretical issues before policy publications in aspects of internationalization, information, trade facilitation and key resource allocation ——aiming to explore the development potential of the industrial chain in FTZ, to enhance the core competence of the industrial chain and update the participation level in international cooperation and competition.

(2) Key issues of industrial management and decision-making. Orientation issues of policy making, issues of integration, standardization and optimization of industrial chain——aiming to improve the methodologies and efficiency of the operation of the Four flows for enterprises functioning as the head of innovation in the supply chain.

2. Research Orientations

We have focused on three critical research orientations on a broader research basis of strategic planning, policy innovation, industry linkage and supervisory services of FTZ supply chain.

(1) Integrated development of the supply chain and industrial chain. Within this research range we addresses strategies of transformation and innovative development in regard to policies applied in FTZ for governments at various levels and companies engaged in various industries; strategies of supply-side reform based on supply chain for large-scale enterprises; strategies of reconstruction in the industrial chain, supply chain and value chain in regard to the Belt-and-Road initiative and FTZ agreements.

(2) Influences of international trade agreements with high standards. Within this research range we conduct academic activities including analyzing the influences of investment and trade agreements with high standards such as TPP and TTIP on the supply chain in FTZ; the systematic innovation for FTZ and supply chain under a negative list; the evaluation system of FTZ policies and the construction of the database of supply chain in FTZ.

(3) Integration and optimization of the “Four flows” of supply chain. We continue to move forward with the interconnections between supply chain in FTZs based on China’s “Internet Plus” Initiative; with the trade facilitation in FTZ and practice of “Single Window” for administrative reform; with the establishment of FTZ platform for cross-border e-commerce and with the interconnection and communication among global FTZs through the channel of supply chains.

3. Research Responsibilities

We continues to provide think tank support for governments at various levels and companies to help them make adjustments to the new normality of China’s economy and changes of the international rules and regulations in economy and trade.

(1) As a leading think tank in fields of supply chain and logistics in FTZ, we continue to provide academic support for the management and innovation reform of governments and local authorities by addressing hot spot topics in FTZ supply chain and logistics that governments most concern. These hot spot topics may include the adjustment to international high-standard trade and investment agreements, transformation and development of the logistics industry, co-development between logistics and other industries, reform and upgrading plans for the logistics industry etc.

(2) As a new university think tank of its type providing third-party certification services, we continue to develop social and market-oriented third-party certification platforms of FTZ supply chain in regard to the requirements of streamlining administration. Based on profound cooperation ties, we provide social services for governmental departments especially when transformation of governmental functions of inspection and certification are addressed.

(3) We continue to conduct academic activities oriented towards the development requirements of enterprises concerning FTZ supply chain and the integration between the supply chain and industrial chain in FTZs. We design innovative solutions in newly emerged topics during the development process of Chinese economy as well as during development processes of enterprises involved in this trend. Topics such as adjustments to supply chain and FTZ, adjustments to FTZ policies and financial risks in supply chain etc. are of special interest. We conduct strategic development planning of reform and transformation for large-scale state-owned enterprises based on supply chain innovation and also help them participate in the pioneering practices of the newly launched polices as to act as examples and models of practical pilot experiences for the reform process of state-owned enterprises.

(4) We continue to foster our FTZ-related research results and experiences of FTZ that can be copied and applied nationwide. With the coordinated collaboration of government, industry and commercial interests as well as research institutes, we have obtained multiple and integrated research outcomes that can be effectively copied and applied to other FTZs and areas in China. Research for strategic planning in regard to China’s major national initiatives and China’s FTZ development will be continuously vibrate and innovative.
